So… Who Am I?

Meet Your Editor: The Story Behind Check-mate

My name is Kinny (Kirnjeet) and I have always been a word nerd. I have spent most of my working life in the health care sector in administrative roles, and most recently worked as a project analyst in a hospital’s Project Management Office.

I have my undergraduate degree from York University in Health Studies with a specialization in Management, and recently completed my Project Management certificate at the University of Toronto. I am also passionate about Diversity and Inclusion and completed my Leadership and Inclusion certificate at Centennial College.

But, my favourite thing to do is edit and proofread. You can count on me to help you improve your projects. I will work with you to get to know your goals and ensure that you are getting your message across to your intended audience.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have! I’d love to chat and learn more about how I can help you.

How I Protect Your Work

When you trust someone with your writing, you’re trusting them with your hard work.

I approach every project with three simple principles:

  • Absolute Kindness: Creative work is vulnerable. Whether you’re sending over a rough first draft of a fantasy novel or a scrambled weekly email, there is zero judgment here. I am in your corner to help, not to critique.

  • Voice Preservation: A good editor shouldn't make your writing sound like a textbook. I help clean up the mechanics, remove (or add) commas to smooth out sentence flow, but your personality stays front and centre.

  • Seamless Collaboration: No complicated tech or ticketing systems here! We communicate simply and directly, whether that's working inside trackable Google Docs suggestions or sending a quick text update over email/WhatsApp.
